It’s time for the next letter in our SASSY acronym – what does the “A” stand for?
The A in SASSY Stands for Assertive.
The core idea behind being an Assertive Woman is that we must be assertive in order to effect change – both in our own lives and in society as a whole. Society tells us that to be assertive as a woman is something bad: we are labeled “bossy”, “shrill”, and “emotional” when we speak up or speak out …labeled, and then disregarded or discarded.
Assertive women are game-changers. We don’t take “Shh” for an answer. We don’t sit down and shut up. We don’t allow others to control our destiny; we take the reins ourselves!
Assertive women are determined. We don’t give up, and see failures as stepping stones to success. We don’t ask “how high is the mountain?” Instead, we find the best route over and lead others to the path.
Assertive women are powerful! If there isn’t an obvious path to our goal, we create ones – we are trailblazers ad together we are unstoppable.
Assertive women are fearless, never afraid to question the status quo, but brave enough also to consider when we might be wrong – and willing to reevaluate.
Assertive women claim their own voice. We speak our minds and share our ideas. We don’t allow ourselves to be silenced. We say what we think, and demand what we deserve!
Assertive women carry the message that life challenges will not stop us. We use every challenge and every setback to build and grow stronger, increasing our resiliency and becoming even more determined.
Assertive women drive change – for both ourselves and the women whose lives we touch, in our homes, our workplaces, our communities, and our world.
Being assertive is a good thing. It doesn’t have to mean enjoying confrontation, or bulldozing over anything in our way. It simply means being willing to stand up for ourselves, our fellow women, and the values we believe in, rejecting attempts to control us or silence us. When we bring our power together we become a force to be reckoned with and anything becomes possible.
