SSL Names New Director of Business Development
Elena Hershey, well-known business woman and community advocate, will help expand the foundation’s reach and support network to benefit women and children in South Florida
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.; Aug. 9, 2022 — The Suits, Stilettos and Lipstick (SSL) Foundation announced today that Elena Hershey has been named to the new position of director of business development. Hershey will work to expand the reach of SSL through partnerships and collaborations with area organizations that share the foundation’s mission of serving the needs of women and children in the community.
“Elena has been part of the SSL family for more than eight years, and has served on our board for five years, making her one of the biggest advocates for our work,” said Dr. Elizabeth King, SSL founder and chief inspiration officer. “She is well recognized as a business and community leader in Broward County, and has the background, creativity and commitment to help us attract the support of outside organizations that is instrumental in raising our reach and visibility in South Florida.”
Elena is part of the family of the Billy’s Stone Crabs restaurant establishment in nearby Hollywood. In business for more than 40 years, Billy’s specializes in seafood — principally sought-after stone crabs — and she has been responsible for managing the restaurant’s operations, online and social media presence, and family real estate portfolio. She oversaw the success of Billy’s nationwide online shipping business and establishment of the restaurant’s fishing operation in Summerland Key, Fla., which is the primary source of fresh seafood served at Billy’s.
Her other community advocacy work includes serving the Symphony of the Americas Society Board as a VP plus being involved with the Boys & Girls Club and Hollywood Art & Culture Center Board of Trustees. Her professional affiliations include Board of Directors positions with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Hollywood Beach Business Association and Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association.
“I am excited to expand my involvement in SSL in this vital new role,” Hershey said. “The key resources we will gain by working with like-minded corporations and nonprofits will be invaluable in expanding our community impact. Our initiatives include the annual John and Elizabeth’s Toy Drive, RISE-resilience and Leadership Training for at-risk youth, Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship, the LIFT mentorship program, and special events.”
