As a serial entrepreneur (I have 4 companies), producer of major conferences, psychotherapist, writer, wife, mom, grandmother and active member of my community it is difficult to have a work-life balance. Yes, indeed my life is very hectic, but I love what I do so much that it is hard for me to stop. I am sure you are not doing a lot, right? lol
To keep the madness of my everyday life in check, I must figure out different ways to stay cool, calm, and collected. I am not going to lie, it is challenging to do everything you love and still have some “me” time, but I know that if I want to remain being healthy and happy, I have to find ways to relax.
I want to share with you my top three tips for relaxing.
- Take the time to think, not about work or the next errand you need to run, but think about how you are going to take care of yourself. By thinking about your mind and body, you allow yourself to stay present. Take up meditation, hypnosis or yoga. This will give you the time to process everything and have a deeper understanding without worrying about the next thing you need to do.
- Sometimes you just need to get away. Go to your happy place. It could be the beach, a spa, maybe a relaxing retreat. Often, your own home might be the most relaxing to you. Where ever it is, make sure to book time out on your calendar to go. I share my calendar with my office manager, so I use code words, like “Re-evaluation of Strategic Plan”. That means, I’m going to sit on the beach for 30 minutes to just do nothing.
- Make time for your passions and the things you love. By scheduling time for yourself, you allow your life to be playful and fun. Dance around the house, listen to music, throw your feet up and read the book you have put aside for “another time”. This is your time to do what makes you feel rejuvenated. I for one, just started taking conga playing lessons and I also plan on taking DJ lessons in the near future. This is my “me” time and I am loving it!
It is great to have passion for your work and to wear many hats, but remember that you only have one life so make sure that you build in time for relaxing and having fun. You can’t be there for anybody if you don’t take good care of yourself. Finding balance, being healthy and feeling happy is how you live a SASSY life!
