
The mother of two beautiful young ladies, and the first of seven (7) children, Dr. Shernette Grant hails from the beautiful island of Jamaica. Currently the Chief Program Officer for Junior Achievement of South Florida (JA), Dr. Grant holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University and is a graduate of the National Superintendent Academy. Prior to joining JA, Dr. Grant served Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), the 6th largest school district in the United States for over 22 years as Director of Magnet & Innovative Programs at the district level; and Principal, Assistant Principal, Magnet Coordinator and Teacher at several schools across the district. Prior to migrating to the United States over 27 years ago, she attended the College of Arts, Science & Technology (C.A.S.T) in Jamaica, where she earned a Diploma in Medical Technology. A self-described transplant to the field of education, Dr. Grant holds a Florida and American Medical Technologist (AMT) Medical Technologist license and have worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a number of Florida Hospitals and other healthcare facilities. As the entrepreneur, Dr. Grant is also the owner of Executive Line Limo, a limousine company that provides luxury ground transportation to its patrons primarily across the tri-county area of Palm Beach, Broward and Dade but ultimately anywhere across the United States and beyond.
Most passionate about her role as a leader, her wide array of experiences serves her well in leading in the most complex and diverse settings; and she has a proven track record of leading with effective out-of-the-box and unorthodox approaches that bring out the best in people and achieve the best for the organization. This ability to bring out the best in people as a precursor to attaining organizational goals is an attribute, she is passionate about working to develop in all. Dr. Grant believes that great leaders can make tremendous impact through expanding their sphere of influence, but this she insists require deliberate actions on the part of leaders.
It is because of her passion for working with leaders that Dr. Grant founded Unorthodox Leadership Consulting & Management Services LLC to be a resource for providing training and coaching for leaders and teams with an emphasis on cultivating skills for leading real people in real organizations. Her recently published book entitled “Unorthodox Leadership…” conveys a preview of Dr. Grant’s philosophy on leadership development and further provides valuable insight on actionable strategies for leaders to utilize in everyday practice. Leadership development is her heart and Dr. Grant is passionate about working to coach and develop leaders and teams to maximize efficiencies and effectiveness, especially when working in challenging environments.
As a leader, Dr. Grant has a reputation for being transformative and innovative and one who leads with heart. At the heart of her approach is the notion that leadership agility, cognitive and behavioral, are necessary attributes of a successful leader; and that the success of a leader is dependent on his or her ability to actualize theory for everyday actions. She is an excellent communicator, connector and relationship builder; and she especially believes in the power of relationships in leveraging individual and organizational potential.
Though Dr. Grant often says she still does not know what she wants to be when she grows up, her personal story continues to be written laced with hard work, resilience, persistence & divine interventions. Dr. Grant’s heart continues to be evidenced by her work with individuals, community and non-profit organizations. A founding member and past chair of the Broward Alliance for Caribbean Educators (BACE), member of the Jamaican Women of Florida (JWOF) organizations and mentor to many, she is passionate about giving back and empowering others while leading a personal and professional life that contributes to improving outcomes for this and the next generation.
