Selflessness. It’s a core value most women have hardwired, and it’s reinforced by society – we are nurturers, we care, we serve. What many of us don’t realize is that we can make a conscious choice to perform extra acts of selflessness and become role models, mentors, and leaders by example.
Changing the world through volunteering makes a positive impact within the community around us, and within ourselves. While we can offer the world our brains, our passion, and our hard work, sometimes all that’s really required to make a difference is a willingness to show up and help. The smallest acts of kindness can uplift and help others – you’d be surprised at the difference a simple smile can make!
Volunteering is also a choice that encompasses much of what we are seeking in life. While it has benefits to those around us, it also benefits the volunteer directly; while helping others grow spiritually, emotionally, or financially, we find ourselves growing in the same ways. The happiness and fulfillment gained from serving others can’t be found in any other activity; it’s unique.
If you are currently involved in giving back to the community, that’s fantastic! If not, I encourage you to plug in. There are hundreds of organizations to choose from, and it can be incredibly easy to pick one that is near and dear to your heart.
Want to feed the hungry? Look for a food kitchen or food pantry in your area. Have a passion for children in need? Children’s charities abound. Ever lost a loved one to disease? You can help others avoid the same pain and grief by supporting a charity for research, awareness, or support.
As a whole, the SASSY community believes strongly in getting involved and giving back. Each community chooses a local women’s charity to get involved with. Monies collected during each event for raffle items go to the charity of choice for each community at the end of the year.
Suits, Stilettos, and Lipstick also gives back on a larger scale. We recently made an agreement with United Way to support our female troops who have so graciously given of their time and resources to serve our country. Through donations and recognizing military women at our events we will continue to serve and support women who make this country great!
Every year we also host an event around the holidays that raises funds and toys for Big Mama, a charity that serves the local community of women and children. When you become part of the SASSY community, you can be a part of this as well.
Whatever the cause and for whatever reason, get involved and give back. Selfless acts of kindness can make such a big difference, in your life and the lives of those you touch.
It’s time to put on your lipstick attitude and get out there and live a SASSY life!
