About Our Scholarship-Mentorship Initiative:
SSL Foundation’s innovative Scholarship-Mentorship Initiative combines the Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship with the highly effective LIFT (Leaders Inspiring Future Trailblazers) Mentorship Program. Our initiative not only offers financial assistance but also pairs the recipient with an accomplished professional woman dedicated to mentoring them for an entire year as they pursue their education, career, and personal goals.
Initiative Details:
Our initiative consists of two key components: the Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship and the LIFT (Leaders Inspiring Future Trailblazers) Mentorship Program. The scholarship offers a need-based, one-time award of $1500 to women who are pursuing higher education at Broward College. The mentorship program pairs recipients with accomplished professional women committed to guiding them for a full year as they pursue their educational, career, and personal aspirations. The scholarship award may be applied to education-related expenses such as tuition, books and supplies, testing and graduation fees, and more. Scholarship recipients will be paired with a mentor for one full year through our LIFT Mentorship Program. Participation in the LIFT Mentorship Program is required to receive the Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship. *Funds will be awarded in 2 payments and will be dispersed as follows: 1) $750 at the Scholarship Award Ceremony 2) $750 after successful completion of the LIFT Mentorship Program.
Applicants undergo a competitive selection process from which 10 women will be selected. The recipients will be honored at our 4th Annual Heidi Dennis Wonder Woman Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort.
SSL Foundation reserves the right to make changes to this program and reject any application without liability.
Heidi’s Story
The scholarship was founded in honor of Heidi Dennis, who served as chairwoman for Suits, Stilettos and Lipstick Foundation for 6 years. Heidi was a local icon and a business and community leader. Her dedication to women’s empowerment stretched throughout her entire life.
Heidi was the epitome of resilience and leadership. Even through multiple bouts with breast cancer, she always found ways to make a difference. Sadly Heidi lost her 2.5 year battle in 2020, but through this scholarship and the many lives that she touched, her legacy will live on forever. Fortunately, Heidi was able to meet the very first recipient of the scholarship.
